The lower density material contains more air so the foam is softer and the life span is shorter. The lower density foams will have less temperature sensitivity. The benefit is that it does not take as much body heat to soften the foam and conform to your body but overall, most foams no matter the density, are softened where body heat transfers so all options will conform to the body. Sleeping on the edge may be an issue since the softening of the pad creates a slope causing a feeling of rolling off the side of the bed. Some of the major companies have designed a barrier or edge support to help with that feeling and create a visual comfort level. Most memory foam beds have an air exchange layer or barrier. Without it, the foam holds in the body heat and creates an uncomfortable humid feeling while sleeping. Making sure the pad is made from cool foam or that there is an air exchange layer or barrier should relieve that concern.
There can be a difference in the feel and quality of all memory foam options and the price can be a good gauge of quality. The least expensive, with inadequate warranties or no guarantees should be a red flag to a potential buyer. These generally will be of a lower quality, wear out faster and be a waste of money. A good quality foam mattress pad will provide sleep comfort and with care, last for many years.
